Crucible: Not to Different From Today

I find it very interesting how the Crucible really is not to different from today. Abigail started the whole controversity by telling the one lie when if she would have told the truth right away none of the trials would have happened. All of the first followed Abigail's lead which is almost like a dictator now of days. Abigail could do anything and the girls would follow. Even sometimes the girls would catch on with what Abigail was doing with out anyone having to tell them to. Along with the witchcraft Abigail was another source of problem with the adultery with Proctor. Even now a days adultery has killed realtionships. Somethings never change in the world.

HUAC

HUAC stands for House Commitee on Un-American Activities. One of their main goals was to destroy Communism in every way they could. They would try and ruin any careers of people who with accused of being Communists. In 1952 and 1952 they made a list of people who were supposed Communists. This was called the Blacklist, all 212 people on this list actually lost their job because of it. The people on this list were not able to find jobs for several years because their reputation had been ruined. None of them could regain any jobs until their reputation had been cleared in public.

Fire and Brimstone

Fear now each and everyone of you, because Satan's hold  is getting tighter and tighter on your bodies. Your life is simiply slipping away second my second until you are buring in the deep depths of hell. Your bodies will be like little twigs being cracked and burned until nothing is left. God does not fear throwing you into the pit of hell. If you get a grasp on your life there is a small oppurtunity to save yourselves. For God is waiting at the gates of heaven to welcome, but do not wait for your time is short.

Squanto's Impact on the Pilgrims

It had been a rough winter when the Pilgrims came over to the New World. They took a rough beating by almost half of their colony died before spring even came. The Pilgrims never had to much interaction with the Indians at first, but one day an Indian named Samoset came and he spoke English. A couple days after he came back with his fellow Indian Squanto came with him. Squanto taught the Pilgrims many "tricks of the trade" such as building warmer houses and plating corn. Squanto ended up staying with the Pilgrims for eighteen months until he went back to his tribe.

Life After Jamestown , John Smith

After Smith got captured by the Natives and was released again the Natives led him back to Jamestown. When he arrived at Jamestown the colony went down hill since he had left. Smith argued with a lot of the people there and he eventually left in exploration of the Chesapeake Bay area. There was a bad government in a local establishment and Smith was eventually elected president for that area. When he was president wanted agriculture to be the main source of food.The establishment was growing and flourishing under Smith's leadership, however Smith had to leave to London to get medical treatment after a burn. He never came back to Virginia. He latter came back to the New World and founded an area he called "New England." However, he was not allowed to ever go back to the New World and spent the rest of his life writing memoirs.
